Unknown books by famous writers
Are you sure you’ve read all the novels and short stories by your favorite writers? We’ve gathered for you little-known works by world-famous writers that almost certainly aren’t on your bookshelf.
The Further Adventures of Robinson Crusoe. Daniel Defoe.
Perhaps there is not a person who has not held The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe in his hands. The amazing story of the Englishman who lived for more than a quarter of a century on a desert island, familiar to everyone, but that Defoe wrote the continuation of the novel, few know.
In “The Further Adventures of Robinson Crusoe” the protagonist, satiated with a secure and stable life in his homeland, returns to the island in the company of the faithful Friday. There he will meet with the local tribe and even a short-lived political career. However to stay long to the hero among new “subordinates” Defoe does not allow, and by chance Crusoe appears in Russia, in Tobolsk where he should spend not one month. If you identify yourself as a fan of the writer, you should definitely read the second part of his famous novel.
Wanderer in the stars. Jack London
Surprisingly enough, but most of the unknown works of famous writers are devoted to prison inmates. Jack London’s novel The Star Wanderer was no exception, with no traditional adventures, gold diggers and other trappings of London literature.
This book is about an agronomy professor Darrell Standing, who, after killing a colleague in a fit of rage, is sentenced to life imprisonment in a California prison. There he must face the dark side of life and learn how to survive in unrelenting hell. Literary scholars believe that “The Wanderer in the Stars” has been forgotten completely unfairly, because it is one of the most ambitious and profound works of Jack London. By the way, in 2005 they even made a movie based on the novel, “The Jacket” with Adrien Brody and Keira Knightley.
Masks. Ray Bradbury
The novel “Masks” the author of the cult books “Dandelion Wine” and “451 degrees Fahrenheit” never finished, however, this did not prevent the publication. The bulk of the work was written in the late ’40s, but the writer never returned to work on it, and “Masks” was restored from fragments of manuscripts discovered by researchers of Bradbury’s work.
Unlike many of the author’s other books, the events here unfold not in a science fiction space, but within the confines of one man who, struggling with the indifference of the world around him, dares to create a false face. The theme of masks would later be developed in The Martian Chronicles, Bradbury’s acclaimed masterpiece.
Tears in the Red Wine. Françoise Sagan
For fans of the French writer’s work, finding unknown works of hers is no easy task. “Hello, Sadness,” “Do You Love Brahms?” and many other books by Sagan are familiar to readers, but there are also some that you almost certainly have not heard anything about. The unknown stories of the author collected in the book “Tears in the red wine” and are, of course, devoted to the relationship between a man and a woman. Love, betrayal, longing for unfulfilled happiness – all the things for which so loved the work of the writer, can be found here.
I would die for you. Frances Scott Fitzgerald
For many readers, the American author’s work is limited to a few novels, including The Great Gatsby and Tender Night. However, an impressive portion of Fitzgerald’s literary work has not even been published until some time. For one reason or another, publishers rejected one of the most extraordinary writers of the last century, forcing him to suffer from endless depressions and to abuse hard liquor.
The collection “I Will Die for You” includes stories that were first published only a few years ago. Unexpected, sometimes macabre themes and stories that are not typical of the writer will open for you Fitzgerald’s work from a completely new side.
